Jan 2, 1863 -  The Battle of Stones River concludes. 

Jan 9-11, 1863 -  Battle of Arkansas Post, (Ft HIndman), AR 

Jan 22, 1863 -  "Mud March" lead by MG Burnside. 

Jan 25, 1863 -  MG Joseph Hooker relieve MG Burnside as commander of the Army of the Potomac . 

Jan 31, 1863 -  Confederate ironclads temporarily break blockade of Charleston, SC.  

Feb 1863

Feb 18-21, 1863 -  Cherokee National  Council disavows CSA and abolishes slavery.  

Mar 1863

Mar 3, 1863 -  Lincoln signs Conscription Act, first draft in US history.  

Mar 17, 1863 -  Engagement at Kelly's Ford, VA.  

Mar 11, 1863 -  CSA blocks USA attempt to bypass VIcksburg, MS at Fort Pemberton.  

Mar 26, 1863 -  West Virginia votes for gradual emancipation.

Apr 7, 1863 - Naval attack on Charleston, SC.   

Apr 11, 1863 - CSA begins seige of Suffolk, VA.  

Apr 21, 1863 - CSA raids B&O railroad in WV. 

Apr 24, 1863 - CSA passes tax in-kind on one-tenth of all produce.   

Apr 30, 1863 - Battle of Chancellorsville, VA begins.    

May 1863

May 1, 1863 -  Battle of Port Gibson, MS. 

May 2, 1863 -  During the battle of Chnacellorsville, VA, CSA General Stonewall Jackson accidentally shot by his own troops.   

May 3, 1863 -  Battle of Second Fredericksburg, VA.  

May 3-4, 1863 -  Battle of Salem Church, VA.   

May 6, 1863 -  Battle of Chancellorsville ends with CSA victory.   

May 10, 1863 -  Death of Stonewall Jackson.

May 12-19 1863 -  MG US Grant's Vicksburg Campaign and siege. 

May 22, 1863 -  Siege of Port Hudson LA begins.   

June 7, 1863 -  Battle of Milliken's Bend, LA.   

June 9, 1863 -  Battle of Brandy Station, VA.  

June 13-15, 1863 -  Battle of Second Winchester, VA.   

June 20, 1863 -  West Virginia joins the Union as the 35th State.  

June 28, 1863 -  MG George G. Meade replace MG Hooker as commander of the Army of the Potomac.

July 4, 1863 -  Gen Lee retreats from Gettysburg, PA.

July 18, 1863 -%4th Massachsetts assaults Battery Wagner, SC attack fails.   Port Hudson, LA surrenders. 

July 29, 1863 - Queen Victoria confirms British neutrality policy.

Oct 5, 1863 - Torpedo attack on USS New Ironsides outside Charleston Harbor, SC.

Oct 16, 1863 - MG US Grant takes command of all western Union forces.
